Evidently, I've been thinking that I can get things like iPad-movie watching time, candy from Green's, pool days with friends and more by doing nothing. In order to avoid tantrums and repeated rule reminders, they implemented this chart with 7 responsibilities:
1. Feed Chomba
2. Set and clear the table
3. Put up dirty clothes
4. Keep bedroom & playroom clean
5. No whining or (ridiculous) crying
6. Fold clothes
7. Do homework
Everything is doable on the list, including folding clothes (only twice a week). Most recently, I folded my laundry and packed my suitcase for our Florida vacation.
Each week prizes are changed. This week, if I earn 5 or more stars on a single day, I get iPad privileges; meaning I can use the iPad to watch Netflix cartoons the following day. If I earn 25 stars in a week, I can pick out something from my favorite candy store, Green's, in Downtown Decatur. If I earn 38 stars in a week, Mami and Papi will buy me a gift. This is BIG because Mami and Papi only buy me gifts on Christmas and on my birthday. They never, ever buy me anything, not even a Barbie accessory, during the year. According to my parents, I get plenty of toys and games to occupy me for 12 months.
This week, my first week, I learned the hard way that when I choose not to clean my room and do my sight words, I simply fall short of 5 stars. I remember crying myself to sleep, so upset that I wouldn't be able to watch My Little Pony the following day. Despite the little bumps in the road, I earned 26 stars and picked out jelly beans from Green's.
