1st Day ... again.

I have had the experience of being in "school" this past year with the Yellow Ducks in the Pre-Pre-K program at East Lake Early Learning Academy. The first day was exciting when I was at home getting ready; mostly due to the fact that Mami's and Papi's excitement transferred to me because honestly I had no idea what was going on. This repetitive phrase of "You're going to school Emi! Are you excited?" has tired me out. I mean seriously, how can I answer that. I don't know what school is or if it will be exciting or not. But I just nod and smile and scream "Yea!"….that always gets them going. Fake it 'til you make it.

When this school year (2012-2013) rolled around, I knew how to answer their question…"Umm, no, I'm not excited." What 4-5 year old will be excited to go to school when they've been hanging out at Disney World with their family and then sleeping in at home and baking cookies each day. "Are you excited your fun is coming to an end?" should be their real question. Either way, I played along and eagerly put on my uniform and let Mami take 101 pictures.

Once we made it outside and in the car, nervousness overcame me. Mami and Papi were dropping me off and were excited that I am starting Pre-K and now have moved over to the "big" school location. I was happy to see kids like me with the same nervous look and uneasiness as their ecstatic parents pushed them closer to the door and down the hallway. This made me feel much more comfortable, I had more pep in my step.

The welcoming faces of my new teachers, although I was looking forward to seeing my old teacher Ms. Abbey, guided me in my classroom. My pep dissipated and I became a bit unresponsive as they asked my name and showed me my cubby for the year.

As soon as I saw 2-3 of my classmates from Yellow Ducks, I was at ease. I grabbed a spot at the table with puzzles and bid my parents goodbye. Not a tear from me or them. Success!
