Ta-Ta
The woman I call Ta-Ta is my grandmother. I started calling her Ta-Ta when I first stated to talk because I had difficulty saying "abuelita". Ta-Ta was in the room when I was born and took care of me until about 8 months ago. Over the summer, she suffered another stroke which unfortunately has compromised a lot of her motor skills and other essential skills needed to function. She was hospitalized for a few months in a New York hospital and now is rehabilitating in a hospital center in Brooklyn. Mama, Papa and I went to visit her in October and she was beyond happy to see me. Yes, just me. Mama and Papa, especially Papa, didn't like the fact that I still get all of Ta-Ta's attention. At first I was a bit hesitant because she looked different to me and required a lot of help. It didn't take much for me to get over that and hang on to my Ta-Ta like I used to do; have her console me when I get in trouble and even sleep in the bed with her because her favorite thing on Earth is to cuddle with me. I had a rough time the following week back in Atlanta. Ms. Abby (my teacher) told Mama that I had been crying all day long and that I have asked for my grandmother. So Mama printed out a picture of Ta-Ta and I have it pasted on my cubby at school. I love and miss my Ta-Ta dearly. I know this will be the first Christmas we spend apart but I pray that it will be the only one.
